Description

Nayanmitra presents, ’The Glorius Maple’, acrylics on canvas, 61 cms by 61 cms.
The maple leaf is the national symbol in Canada, and it can be found in its flag and on its coins. In some Western countries, this tree was believed to repel demons and evil spirits. It was customary to have a maple tree around the entrance of a home. Furthermore, it is an important tree in the Celtic mythology. It was a tree consecrated to Dana, the Celtic goddess of fertility. It is also known as the tree of the tolerance. In China, maple is associated with honor, and its leaves are a motif in Japanese ukiyo-e paintings representing love and autumn.

Japanese maple trees have been considered a symbol of grace. Associated with peace and serenity of the five elements, Japanese maple trees represent balance and practicality and are called “kito” in the Japanese language, which means “calm,” “rest” or “at peace.”

This work tries to incorporate all the fall colours with fluid acrylics in the background, with the grace of the maple leaves in gold in the foreground.
